QUINCY - Gus
Diezemann and Ruth Tuffy are senior Olympic gold medalists.
Both are in their eighties. For the past 19 years, Tuffy has
been a regular at the Quincy Senior Olympic Games. She
believes the events are a great way to motivate seniors to
stay active. A competitor in walking and in bocce,
Tuffy, a Quincy resident, landed her first gold medal when
she was in her early sixties. It was for the one mile run.
“You feel good afterwards,” said Tuffy, now 83, and hoping
to partake in the bocce event this spring. Diezemann, a
resident of Linden Ponds in Hingham, participated a few
years back. Last year, at age 80, he tried again. “I enjoy
the competition,” said Diezemann.
