An Ethic of Service
By
Joan E. Thompson |

Mayflower RSVP,
Inc., was recently approved as a Certifying Organization to
work with the White House in presenting the PRESIDENT’S CALL
TO SERVICE AWARD, a national program recognizing Americans
who have demonstrated a sustained commitment to volunteer
service.
Established in 2003, the AWARD was created by President
George W. Bush to give Presidential recognition to
individuals, families and groups who have served others in
their community by giving more than 4,000 hours of service
over their lifetime.
As a Certifying Organization, Mayflower RSVP is responsible
for verifying service hours, sending the nominations of
potential recipients to the White House Commission, then
delivering the award.
The “Class of 2006” listed below were certified by Mayflower
RSVP and includes 25 recipients who have served dozens of
agencies, organizations, and causes throughout the South
Shore – and New England.
There isn’t enough space to allow me to give you the details
of their service, but you may recognize a name or two. If
you do, by all means ask them to tell you the many ways they
have found to help others.
The list is only of names and hometowns, but the service of
these extraordinary helpers extends across many other towns
– and states. Their example is a model for us all!
