3 Magic Words Keep Ward 4 Humming
By
Reno Litterio

Quincy - Civility… congeniality… camaraderie… Celebrating our fifteenth year, the Ward 4 Senior Citizens Group here in the City of Quincy is stronger than ever, with many of its original members still attending; meeting not once in a blue moon, not once a month, but every Wednesday at the Community Center, 100 Brooks Ave., in South Quincy.

We are all volunteers and contributors, to make this one of the best weekly social gatherings in the City of Quincy. There is no other program that meets our creative input and leadership for seniors.

In 1992, a chance meeting with Peg and Ernie Aristide, at the President’s Place, while having a cup of coffee, our talk eventually turned to starting a social program for seniors. I told Ernie, “I want to think about it before committing myself.” I had just lost my wife, Barbara, a few months previously, and I wanted to volunteer my experience and leadership to others.

We picked Wednesday, meeting once a week from 1 to 4 p.m. In the initial gathering we had a few people, but word slowly circulated about our meetings and we gained new members. Since the early beginning this program has evolved into a structured presentation of speakers, updating relevant issues, music, travel, special theater productions, luncheons, and just being together once a week. We look forward to seeing old friends and new, and you’d better not sit in someone’s established chair, which they claimed years back.

Civility… congeniality… camaraderie… Our motto speaks for itself, in creating an atmosphere that is conducive for enjoying an afternoon of laughter, love, refreshments, raffle and contributors who give of themselves knowing someone there is thinking of you.
