Contemplation And Meditation

Quincy
- The summer season is over when the month of September sneaks in. You can’t miss it, with boisterous children screaming and laughing in school playgrounds, brown areas on the lawn and leaves, leaves, leaves everywhere. Officially, by my calendar, the first day of autumn is the 23rd of this month.

Now is a good time to bring about unity in your life through mental exercise consisting in any of the innumerable techniques of concentration, contemplation and abstraction to heightened spiritual awareness or somatic calm.

The practice of meditation has occurred worldwide since ancient times. It may be viewed as spiritually or physically restorative and enriching to daily life. Meditation may serve as a special, potent preparation for a particular, usually physical or strenuous activity, as in the case of the warrior before battle or musician before a performance.

In recent medical and psychological studies, meditation techniques have proven effective with skilled practitioners in controlling pulse and respiratory rates and, to varying degrees, in control of migraine headaches and hypertension.

Listen to your body when you feel stressed out. Take time each day to sit quietly away from activity and try some deep breathing exercises. Think or visualize pleasant thoughts. Choose a time of the day when your activities are on the down side and keep that time frame each day. See if you can’t bring calming enrichment into your life.
